Last Sunday we went to a pleasant brunch at a colleague\u2019s house to welcome the new USAID Country Director. Afterward I had my biweekly call with Ann, Pam, and Jackie where we attempt to solve the world\u2019s problems. Saturday night, our public affairs officer and I took the USAID Country Director to a sunset dinner overlooking the beach &#8211; a nice evening with a good breeze and cold beer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work was busy &#8211; an adoption, students, general visa work. Matthew is back from a long absence from the office &#8211; thank goodness! I\u2019ve never been so glad to see someone!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I love the new \u201cno-work weekends,\u201d too. I wish I\u2019d been doing this the last year and a half! I finished reading \u201cThe Heart is a Lonely Hunter\u201d and also read \u201cMy Father the Pornographer\u201d &#8211; both good reads. Saturday I ventured out to a salon to get my nails done &#8211; nice! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>John and I have been watching \u201cUnforgotten,\u201d \u201cPhysical,\u201d \u201cTed Lasso,\u201d \u201cSchmigadoon,\u201d (thanks, Muffy!), \u201cManifest,\u201d &#8211; and most recently, an Israeli drama, \u201cHit and Run.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had a couple of social things to do this week.
