It was rather fitting, then, that we were able to see an old friend (and my old boss) from Tel Aviv &#8211; Juan was in town for a (non-Foreign Service) work trip and came for dinner Friday night. We were joined by Jenae, who we all worked with on our first tours in Juarez (although Juan left Juarez right before we arrived\u2026then we met him on our second tour). We had a great time catching up and hearing about his life in London, where he settled down after Tel Aviv. Another fitting occasion, since we first met Jamie 16 years ago when he was with us in orientation into the Foreign Service! We had a great time chatting, eating great food (I got the recipe for roasted carrots with cumin seed, yummers), and solving all the world\u2019s problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last Monday I went back to work, made easier by an \u201coff-campus\u201d lunch with Lea to catch up. Thursday night, John and I attended the Netherland\u2019s \u201cDay of the King\u201d celebration after work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We finished Season One of \u201cThe Diplomat\u201d &#8211; completely over the top but lots of fun. I read \u201cCarrie Soto is Back,\u201d by the same author of \u201cThe Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo,\u201d an easy read about a former tennis champion. I tried to get into Amor Towles\u2019 \u201cLincoln Highway,\u201d but just couldn\u2019t, even after enjoying his other books. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After almost 19 years, Flavia has decided John is pretty OK and has taken to sitting on his lap!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"320\" height=\"272\" src=\"http:\/\/www.criplomats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/IMG_2416.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7040\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.criplomats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/IMG_2416.jpeg 320w, http:\/\/www.criplomats.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/IMG_2416-300x255.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 320px) 100vw, 320px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And now that cherry season is over, I\u2019ve taken to grapes &#8211; these are from Chile and are just amazing!
