Memorial Day<\/p><\/div>\n

Pete, Ginger, John, and I were off to Lake Chapala where John gave remarks at the Chapala American Legion Memorial Day event. He did a great job, of course. It was a fun group and we stayed on afterward for the BBQ lunch. I enjoyed talking to many of the veterans and answered questions about services that the Consulate provides.<\/span><\/p>\n

After lunch we drove around the lake some, and stopped at a little nursery where I bought several neat plants to put on the balcony.<\/span><\/p>\n

I took Tuesday off, and we went downtown in Guadalajara to the Hospicio del Cabanas, an old orphanage cum museum, to see the Orozco murals – they were stunning – quite modernistic and interesting. It was also a lovely old building and I’m so glad we went. <\/span><\/p>\n

Afterward we had good margaritas and a yummy lunch at Casa de los Platos, across the street from our apartment. It’s a lovely open air restaurant. When we came home, John taught Pete and Ginger to play Settlers of Catan – fun!<\/span><\/p>\n

Wednesday John took Pete and Ginger to the airport and I went back to work. I had a good massage at a nice spa at the end of the day; I had done a lot of driving over the weekend and my shoulders were all knotted up. I’m glad to have finally found a good masseuse here; lots of places just have staff that have never really been trained and don’t know what they’re doing.<\/span><\/p>\n

John and I celebrated the end of the week with dinner at Vaca de Argentina, one of our favorite spots. It started pouring down rain on the way home; the locals say rainy season is on its way.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday John and I read most of the day, except I made a midday foray to the nursery to have the new plants potted. I talked to Mom’s temporary caregiver a few times; Mom was very restless and complained of itching. Crawford Drug delivered some cream to help with that, and today the caregiver reported that she was much more comfortable. I was able to talk to her; although most of what she says is unclear, some things are much better than they were a few weeks ago and she seems so much more coherent. The agency has replaced one of the caregivers – it’s a long story – but hopefully we can get back on track soon. I’m so thankful to Mom’s housekeeper and one of Aunt Bonnie’s caregivers for their drop-in visits and help. I’mm keeping my fingers crossed that Mom will be comfortable for the foreseeable future.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
