This was a very busy and emotional trip. I went through everything at Mom’s house and decided what to keep and what to give away. Friday afternoon, I bought her tombstone and that, of course, really hit home that she is really and truly gone. I’m happy that I had good friends to help with the process: Mary who helped me get started those first few days and was my second set of ears when I met with the attorney; Pam for spending a day off with me running errands and wrapping packages of Mom’s things to be mailed to friends and family; My long-time RDS friends Kathy and Terry for meeting me for lunch one day and allowing me to laugh and take my mind off of it all; Sandy, for having me out to her house for dinner one night; neighbors for bringing me food while I was there; David and Alison for multiple dinners on their lovely back porch overlooking the lake, plus loaning me their car when I sold Mom’s; and Ann, for helping me say a final goodbye to the house and drive away.
There was a big right spot in all of this: the night before I left, John surprised me with a phone call saying I had been promoted at work – yay! It was nice to have some good news!
